After much ado, I have arrived in the capitol of Mozambique that is Maputo. It took 31 hours of travel from Philadelphia to Johanesburg, and then to Maputo this mourning. We arrived at a group of bungalos for further training this afternoon. This evening we were treated to some local dancing and music by a band performing for a wedding at the resort. An important-looking gentlemen gave us a show by participating in a native dance with some young elusively dressed dancers. We were amuzed to later find out that he is the former president of Mozambique. After informed we quickly took notice of a number of men behind us holding AK47's. What a welcome.
Since leaving SLC we have been wined and dined by Peace Corps. We were put up in the historic district of Philly, a fancy hotel in Johanesburg and now a resort on the Indian Ocean in Maputo. It will soon come to an end for we head to the country on Sunday to meet our families. We will be staying in Namaacha on the border of Mozambique and Maputo until Dec. 10th. 49 of the orignial 69 will be in Namaacha. This group is a lot of fun and everywhere we go people know we're there. We have cheered on every take off and landing in the planes.
Tomorrow I will recieve nine more shots and a language test so I better get to bed. Thanks for reading. Remember there is an open door policy for anyone in Mozambique. So if you are in the nieghborhood, give me a ring.
