we had a party for our one month mark yesterday. on the surface things are not much different than when we arrived, however subtle things catch my attention. For example, when we first arrived in Namaacha it was so easy to notice the trash everywhere you look or the poor living conditions. slowly, i have begun to overlook the trash and negatives and take note of the beautiful surroundings. we are at the foot of a mellow peak in south africa and the view is gorgeous. there are fruit trees everywhere you look. in my yard we have papaya, mango, banana, orange and avocado trees. we have also began to notice that the living conditions are not as poor as we had let ourselves believe. it turns out that my family is well within the middle class population of namaacha, a city that is much more well off than many parts of mozambique. it is odd to catch yourself thinking of how much money your family here has and then compare it to our families at home. it is unbelievable to think about the wealth we have.
once again i am sorry to not have pictures for you. i am struggling to commit my time to the internet. but i do intend to upload some soon. as well as spend some more time writing. anyone can call me when they wish; my incoming minutes are free. if you are interested dial as follows, i would love to hear some voices.
