Now that school is over, my schedule has opened up considerably. Therefore, the squad and I were able get in a little leisure time. Paul, Patrick and I traveled out to Barra Beach, which is located about 45km, or two hours, from my house in Inhamussua. We enrolled in the Open Water Dive course offered at the lodge there. It included five tiresome days of diving in both the pool and at some local reefs. All in all we had four open water dives and each had their own beauties. On the first dive, I was amazed to see the quantity of fish that exists on reefs. I assumed that the pictures of underwater diving were of the amazing sights not seen to often. On the contrary, every dive we took was filled with beautiful, colorful fish, all of which had the most peculiar habits. By the end of the four dives we had seen some star fish and the shrimp that eat them, a couple octopuses, an eel, a number of small rays, a larger manta ray (which is hardly seen at such shallow depths), and everybody but me saw a shark on the second dive. Not a bad resume after four dives. The M Team is quite pleased with the investment and is excited to hit the sea in the near future.
Now it is back home to tidy up the house before we head north for our Great African Adventure. There are six people among our crew making up quite an all-star team and it will be about a forty day journey culminating on the roof of Africa at more than 19,300 feet. Feel free to drop in and see the updates as we voyage north from the tropic of Capricorn to the equator and back.
I hope the northern-hemisphere winter is treating you well as we head into a blistering, humid summer here in the southern tropics.
